"MISS JULIE" BASED ON MOTIFS FROM AUGUST STRINDBERG - PREMIERES ON 20 AND 30 JUNE

„MISS JULIE“ based on motifs from August Strindberg

„Tabula rasa „blank sheet“ (clean slate) is a Latin winged phrase used to denote the epistemological thesis that every individual human being is born without innate or built-in (predetermined) mental content, that is, blank. Their store of knowledge is built entirely from experience and the sensory perception of the external world. That is, we are born free. But our character is determined not only genetically, but also socially.

The question is which of the two is stronger. In the play „Miss Julie” the characters have little freedom, little love. What do these characters have at all? They have fear and prejudice. And out of fear a person becomes hard-hearted (cruel). The play shows very clearly how a person is powerless to overcome the desire to humiliate the other when they have the chance to do so… Where does this fear come from, where does it appear, and why is it so strong? In the answer to this question lies the relevance of this text. Could we free ourselves from fear and become „clean and free“ again?“ Teodora Lilyan

„Miss Julie“ at the Pleven theatre is very different from the familiar dramaturgical basis of August Strindberg.“ – shares director Teodora Lilyan. This is the second project in tandem between her and Roman Dolzhansky after her successful debut performance last season at the „Ivan Vazov“ National Theatre, „Rusalka“, based on motifs from the play by Pushkin and Nabokov.

Teodora Lilyan graduated from the Russian State Institute of Performing Arts (RGISI) in St Petersburg in the class of Grigory Mikhailovich Kozlov, an Honoured Worker of Theatrical Art in Russia and artistic director of the “Masterskaya” theatre in St Petersburg. During her studies Teodora Lilyan staged performances at the Educational Theatre and took part in numerous theatre laboratories in Russia.
