"The Brave Little Tailor" is a vivid, colourful and fantastical story from which young viewers will learn
How to sew ourselves a fairy tale!
All it takes is five sweet-tongued dreamers, fabric, lace and a fantastical story about a little hero, gluttons in marmalade and a dozen giants, a king and a whole army of generals, a prince and a princess too, all of them as if by magic crafted from the hands of our storytellers – actors, or perhaps tailors, whichever you choose!
And here is a magical tale, born before our eyes, about a little tailor who made up a story of how he beat seven with one blow. Seven whaaat, you will ask? That the tailor slyly keeps to himself! And crossing the world, packed into a tailor’s workshop or a little stage, he will get into all sorts of scrapes, both scary and funny - with mistrustful neighbours, wicked kings, enormous giants and a princess… But how and why our little friend will have to perform not made-up, sewn, but real feats, we will find out only at the theatre.
In "The Brave Little Tailor" the actors Nikolay Stoychev and Ivan Zhuntovski, who since 2023 have been part of the company of the "Ivan Radoev" Theatre, make their professional stage debut, along with set designer Tanya Nedelcheva and director Maksima Boeva, for whom this is a first premiere of a puppet performance for children.
Maksima Boeva graduated in directing for the dramatic theatre at the „Krastyo Sarafov“ National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts (NATFIZ) in the class of Prof. Plamen Markov in 2017. As a young director with a rich professional biography, she is the winner of numerous prestigious theatre awards and nominations. Her debut performance „Nirvana“ by Konstantin Iliev was nominated for the IKAR 2019 in the „Debut“ category for directing, was awarded the „Slavi Shkarov“ prize for a young theatre director in 2018, and the prizes for overall performance and directing at the „Drumevi Theatre Festival“ in Shumen, 2018. And the performance „Collateral Damage“, based on the book „War Does Not Have a Woman’s Face” by Svetlana Alexievich, a production of the Azaryan Theatre, in addition to the prize for overall performance at the „Drumevi Theatre Festival“ in Shumen, 2020, received the IKAR 2020 in the „Debut“ category for the achievements of the entire cast. In 2022 she staged „Rabbit Hole“ by David Lindsay-Abaire at the Shumen Theatre, and in 2023 „Mary Jane“ by Amy Herzog at Theatre 199. Maksima Boeva is currently studying directing in puppet-theatre practices at NATFIZ under Prof. Slavcho Malenov – a master’s programme. The inspiring performance „The Brave Little Tailor“ is Maksima Boeva’s first premiere as a puppet director.
Premiere 13 February 2024.
